4K Solutions was contacted by a U.S. Army Tactical Division G6 Information Security Officer to help solve their Expeditionary Cyber Security “issues”.
Problem
: Currently fielded US Army / DISA (DoD) HBSS solutions proved to be too complicated and cumbersome to deploy across tactical satellite links at their Brigade and Battalion deployed locations for non Information Assurance soldiers.
The Army Tactical Division’s stated issues:
“Division is unable to secure expeditionary networks or workstations in a high-risk environment. Existing cyber security tools for scanning and patching are largely based on the Battle Command Common Server (BCCS) Program of Record. These are reactive security approaches that do not ensure the security of a system prior to an attack. Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), requires significant training and resources to operate and maintain while still being a reactive in nature. Existing patching and threat mitigation tools are too complex to install and operate, do not provide immediate feedback, and require administrators to initiate most actions. Existing systems are also too large to deploy via commercial aircraft and require HVAC and power associated with an established command post or data center.”
